Preparing For Departure

Thanks for joining me on this adventure! This past weekend I attended Global Symposium I in Washington, D.C. where I had the opportunity to meet 2012 TGC participants from across the U.S. and get to know the group of 11 educators that I will be traveling with to Ghana March 3rd through the 18th.

We learned that we will spend our first few days getting to know Accra, visiting historical and cultural sites and schools and meeting with Ministry of Education and U.S. Embassy officials. Our group will then divide in two, with some staying in Accra and others journeying to Cape Coast, approximately 165 km west. I'll be in the Cape Coast group.

While in Cape Coast, fellow U.S. teacher Barb and I will spend a week at Wesley Girls High School learning from and with Ghanaian partner teachers Raphael Aidoo-Taylor and Kate Annan-Wilberforce. We expect that our visit will include class observations, some teaching, participating in extracurricular activities with students, meetings with teachers and administrators and visits to nearby historical and cultural sites.

Our entire group will then reunite in Cape Coast to debrief before returning to spend our last days in Accra.

I left Washington, D.C. overwhelmed, excited, and grateful that I have this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from and share with Ghanaian and American colleagues who share my passion for geographic and global education.
